The Safety Specialist is responsible for leading the continuous improvement of health and safety management systems ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements under Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act while fostering a pro-active safety culture that engages all levels of the workforce. This position will drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce risk, prevent injury, and enhance overall mill performance related to employee safety and well-being.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement health and safety strategies aligned with regulatory and business objectives.
• Lead and support incident investigations, root cause analyses and corrective action planning.
• Develop pro-active safety programs including risk assessments, behavior-based safety and near-miss reporting while ensuring OHSA, WSIB and MOL compliance.
• Build and maintain a culture of safety ownership through leadership visibility, training, coaching and employee engagement.
• Analyze safety performance data, identify trends and recommend improvement strategies.
• Collaborate with all departments to integrate safety into all areas of the business.
• Prepare and present reports to senior leadership and external regulators.
• Lead the site’s emergency response and preparedness planning and training.

Your Profile:

• Candidates must have bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety or a related field.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a health and safety position in an industrial facility.
• Proven experience leading safety programs and culture transformation.
• Strong working knowledge of Ontario safety legislation and best practices.
• High degree of initiative, problem-solving and resilience under pressure.
• Excellent communicator, insightful, self-aware, and able to listen to employees and integrate feedback into the operations. Strong belief in continuous improvement.
• Strong computer skills including MS Office.
• Candidates must be able to legally work within Canada at the time of applying for the position.

Compensation:

• This is a salary position in the $80,000 to $100,000 range depending upon experience plus an annual bonus and relocation assistance.
