We are looking for a Recovery Superintendent to join our team. Candidates must have previous experience supervising unionized individuals in a pulp and paper facility. The successful candidate will ensure the safe and efficient operations of the department and its approximately fifteen employees.
The Recovery Superintendent will be responsible to maintain the efficient operation of the recovery process to support our kraftmill operations while ensuring site objectives for safety, environment, production, manpower and costs are met. The Recovery process includes recovery boiler, evaporation and stripping systems, tall oil, and turpentine recovery.
This leadership role demands sound decision making and negotiation abilities as well as supervisory experience in a unionized environment. Candidates must have a chemical engineering degree or power engineer certificate along with previous experience managing employees.
Your primary responsibilities will include the following:
The Superintendent will lead and manage the department team to successfully achieve its targets with respect to health and safety, meeting operational budget priorities, the capital plan, planned and predictive maintenance and achieving overall productions rates and manufacturing cost targets for the Department.
The Superintendent will develop, coordinate and implement the staff training programs for the Departments given the demographics of the team and to maintain and improve upon quality, efficiency and capital upgrades.
The Superintendent will participate in the monthly operational / budget review process and will maintain an active and open dialogue with the unions to promote safe work practices, product and equipment ownership, and continuous improvement within the departments.
Maintain liaison between the Department and maintenance to address all short term and long-term maintenance needs.
Develop safe and effective Department shutdown plans and manage the execution of the shutdown.
Develop long terms plans for major maintenance items and projects to keep the department’s production capability within the long-term goals of the kraftmill.
Demonstrate a full commitment to the safety process and policies, including the integration of safety into all operational functions.
Maintain a good working relationship between management, staff, and hourly employees.

Reporting to the Utilities Manager and Chief Operating Engineer, you will be part of a results-oriented team whose members are encouraged to exceed expectations.
Work alongside the Recaust Superintendent, Steam & Turbine Superintendent, Utilities Process Engineer and the rest of the Utilities Management Team and Shift Superintendents.
Compensation:
- This is a salary position plus an annual bonus and fully paid relocation assistance is available,
